Fly Tying Night, with demonstrations and helpful tips by ace chapter tyers

We had a special evening of fly tying at our regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, January 10.   Dries, wets, nymphs, midges, bass flies, shad flies, saltwater-- you name it, you found it here.

Tyers at all skill levels come to tie or just to watch and socialize. Frank Thompson and John Colburn, our deans of trout flies, were on hand to teach us all how to do it the classic way. We also had several whipper-snappers tying hi-faluttin concoctions like Scott Faley's shad patterns, Andrew Spence's bass hair bugs, and Seb "Brown Water" O'Kelly's worm fly. Mike Critzer demonstrated saltwater flies, Tom Mann tied midges, and Duncan McGrath whipped up flies for smallies.

Making a special appearance were Diane and Bill, two regulars with Project Healing Waters who just recently started rolling their own under the tutelage of John Colburn. To judge from their creations, they're planning on spending some serious and productive time on the water.
