James Prosek, artist, writer, adventurer and activist, is our second headliner. James Prosek is described by The New York Times as “the Audubon of the fishing world.” He was 19 when he published his first book, Trout, An Illustrated History, 1999, which featured his award-winning watercolor paintings of trout. His watercolors of fish and fishing have been widely exhibited. In 2003, Prosek won a Peabody Award for The Compleat Angler, his documentary about traveling through England in the footsteps of Izaak Walton. He co-founded a conservation initiative called World Trout in 2004 with Patagonia’s Yvon Chouinard, which raises money for coldwater habitat conservation through the sale of T-shirts with his trout paintings.

Prosek's other books include Joe and Me: An Education in Fishing and Friendship, 1997; A Connecticut Yankee Follows in the Footsteps of Walton: The Compleat Angler, 1999; Early Love and Brook Trout, 2000; Fly-Fishing the 41st From Connecticut to Mongolia and Home Again: A Fisherman’s Odyssey, 2003; Trout of the World, 2003; and children's books A Good Day’s Fishing, 2004; The Day My Mother Left, 2007; and his latest, Bird, Butterfly, Eel, 2009, an amazing children’s book about fascinating migration journeys of birds, insects, and fish.
