We regularly offer program activities throughout the year for novices and experts, young and old. Click on a link below to see what we have to offer.

              • Wednesday October 12, 2011: Fly Fishing The Yellowstone Ecosystem (Preceded By Fly Casting Instruction!). Dusty Wissmath's Fly Fishing School And Guide Service is based in Bluemont, VA--just outside D.C., and Dusty guides out West each summer. Dusty will warm us up with a casting lesson at 6 PM on the promenade level of the Montgomery County Services Center. So, if you are new to fly fishing or your casting needs tuning up you will not want to miss this great opportunity. After casting Dusty will treat us to a talk focusing on the fly fishing opportunities in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Dusty will introduce us to fishing such fabled waters as the Yellowstone River, the Henry's Fork, and the neighboring rivers in Southwest Montana!

              • Wednesday November 9, 2011: Steelhead Fishing in New York and Pennsylvania. Rich Farino is the manager of the Urban Outfitter located in Alexandria. Rich is a native New Yorker, and a steelhead die-hard. Rich will speak to the Chapter about the tactics and techniques used to land these beautiful fish in the tributaries of the Great Lakes located in upstate New York and Pennsylvania just in time for the fall run! Don't miss this one because these fish are humongous!

              • Wednesday January 11, 2012: Tackle Craft & Fly Tying. Got a bad case of cabin fever? Can't wait for spring? Then come join us for an evening of tackle craft and fly tying. As in past years, we will have several accomplished tiers demonstrating their skills, and there will be instruction for those who would like to learn the art of tying a fly! In addition, there will be experienced anglers on hand to discuss topics such as tying knots, cleaning fly lines, maintaining reels, and much more.

              • Wednesday February 8, 2012: River Monsters: Potomac River Muskies! Yes, there are large fish in the Potomac. Muskies to be exact! William Heresniak of Eastern Trophies Fly Fishing is known far and wide for his expertise taking muskies on the fly, and he will tantalize us with a discussion about fishing for these beasts. He will also discuss with us his angling techniques for large smallmouth bass.

              • March, 2012. Annual Angling Show-- Date and featured speakers to be announced. Support your favorite fisheries conservation organizations!

              • Wednesday April 11, 2012: Fly Fishing Techniques For the Gunpowder. Have you wanted to learn more about how to fish a trout stream? Well, the Gunpowder is a gem of a stream, and there is no one better to introduce us to the techniques used on the Gunpowder than Theaux Le Gardeur, the proprietor of the Backwater Angler located on the banks of the Gunpowder in Monkton, Maryland. Theaux is a well-regarded expert, so please join us for what will sure to be a great talk.

              • Wednesday May 9, 2012: Maryland's Wild Trout. Tom Starrs of the Maryland Chapter of Trout Unlimited has spent years locating and fishing for wild trout in Maryland. Tom will tell us about the streams in Maryland where he finds native brook trout and other species too. You will be surprised where he finds these beautiful fish!
